Monitoring
Built in 1948, Kanopolis Reservoir is now impeded by excessive nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) and sediment raising concerns for future recreational and public water supply usage. The Big Creek Middle Smoky Hill River (BCMSHR) watershed monitoring project has set aside numerous stream monitoring locations from the Cedar Bluff Reservoir outlet to the outlet of Kanopolis Reservoir. With these sites we are looking to narrow down where excessive nutrients and sediment enter stream waters and install best management practices to decrease their pollution impact. Monitoring sites are located in Ellis, Russell and Ellsworth counties.
